Types of Child Care

In almost every community there are various kinds of care for babies. During the first 2 years of life is better for children with individual care or family day care because they need more cuddling and personal attention. Types of arrangements for the care of babies are (in descending order of preference for younger infants):

- Individual care in your home

This is the preferred arrangement for infants. The care is provided by a grandmother or a professional nanny. You may need to put an ad in the local newspaper, asking for a babysitter. You should check references carefully who offers, especially in regard to the characteristics that are most important to you. Almost all professional sitters will stay in your home just while you are gone, but some are willing to live in the house.

- Individual care in someone else’s home

This arrangement is very similar to the previous, except that your child will not have the benefit of being cared for at home. In addition, you will need to bring diapers, bottles and toys, as well as transport your child home from the sitter. Read the rest of this entry »
